Matanegra is the southernmost production zone. Its soils have a certain similarity to Tierra de Barros, but the average altitude here is 638m.
This area has a temperate climate, quite similar to Tierra de Barros but slightly milder. As a result, the harvest here usually starts a few days later.
Indigenous white grape varieties such as Eva or Beba de Los Santos and Montua are the most commonly found in Matanegra, followed by Pardina, Cayetana Blanca and Macabeo. As for red varieties, in decreasing order of vineyard surface we find Tempranillo, Garnacha and Cabernet-Sauvignon.
Matanegra production area includes the following towns: Bienvenida, Calzadilla, Fuente de Cantos, Medina de las Torres, Puebla de Sancho Pérez, Los Santos de Maimona, Usagre, Valencia del Ventoso and Zafra.
