The orography here is complex, with numerous hills that shape small valleys where the vines grow at an average altitude of 638m over the sea level on greyish-brown acid soils.
The climate in this area is continental, with very hot Summers and not too severe Winters. The annual rainfall here ranges between 500 and 600mm.
The most widely found grape variety in Montanchez is the White Borba, spreading across two thirds of the total vineyard surface. It is followed by other white varieties such as Alarije, Cayetana Blanca and Pedro Ximenez. We can also find some Tempranillo and Garnacha, however red grape varieties are a minority in this area.
This production zone comprises the following towns: Albalá, Alcuéscar, Aldea de Trujillo, Aldeacentenera, Almoharín, Arroyomolinos de Montánchez, Casas de Don Antonio, Escurial, Garciaz, Herguijuela, Ibahermoso, La Cumbre, Madroñera, Miajadas, Montánchez, Puerto de Santa Cruz, Robledillo de Trujillo, Salvatierra de Santiago, Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Santa Marta de Magasca, Torre de Santa María, Torrecilla de la Tiesa, Trujillo, Valdefuentes, Valdemorales, Villamesías and Zarza de Montáchez.
