The Quaternary sediments left by the Guadiana river and its tributaries led to this area’s clayey and muddy soils. The average altitude here is approximately 286m.
The climate in Ribera Baja is continental, with moderate Atlantic influence. West and Southwest winds affect the persistence and intensity of the rainfall in this area. Climate variations are rare: long Summers, short and mild Autumns and Springs with the main concentration of rainfall, and not too severe Winters.
Cayetana Blanca and Pardina are the most widely planted White grape varieties, together with some vineyards of Macabeo. As for red grapes, Tempranillo and some Garnacha are also present here.
Ribera Baja includes the following towns: La Albuera, Almendral, Badajoz (the province’s capital city), Lobón, Montijo, Olivenza, La Roca de la Sierra, Talavera la Real, Torremayor, Valverde de Leganés and Villar del Rey.
